Lionville Middle School Wrestling

The Lions fall to crosstown rivals!

On Monday 1/14, the Lionville wrestlers hosted their district rivals, Downingtown Middle School. The match pits some of the best wrestlers Downingtown has to offer in a heated dual meet. Lionville put forth some strong efforts, but forfeits and missed weights set them back, and the sacrifice of too many bonus points sealed their fate. In the end, DMS won 63-33, and the Lions learned some valuable lessons. Ryan Loraw (95) and Liam Knott (105) captured pins for LMS, while Frankie Colantuno (110) earned a major decision. Bo Horvath (155) registered a technical fall and Adham “The Beast” Abouraya (210) and “Big” Nate Elam (250) collected forfeits. Now, the Lions must have a short memory and get prepared for their inaugural dual meet tournament at Cocalico HS this coming weekend. Good luck Lionville!

LMS can’t catch a break at Chichester!

For the second straight year, the Lion wrestlers had to journey down close to the Delaware River and compete against Chichester Middle School. Due to injury/illness, both teams had holes and gave up some forfeits, but Chi clawed and kicked a little harder and earned themselves a 53-44 victory over the Lions. Bo Horvath (155) collected the lone pin, while Frankie Colantuno (110) won a decision. Paxson Warnock (85), RJ Fullerton (90), Chris Zimmerman (95), Ryan Loraw (100), and Ryan Shannon (105) all received forfeits. The loss was a lesson in toughness for Lionville as many of the Chi wrestlers fought tooth and nail to earn bonus point wins or fight off their backs. Next week, the Lions have their final slate of dual meets, so good luck to the team and finish strong!

Lionville suffers a rough visit from Patton!

At mid-week, the Patton Middle School Eagles came to LMS for their annual dual meet. They brought a strong team and defeated the Lions 63-27. Lionville had to forfeit a few weights due to absences/injuries, but managed to secure pins by Ryan Loraw (95) and Bo Horvath (155). RJ Fullerton (90) earned a solid, hard-fought decision while Ezra Ganz (122) and Grace Wileczek (165) also picked up falls for the Lions. The loss to Patton was a tough one and exposed many areas in need of improvement, but the Lions are willing, and there are more opportunities ahead! Good luck against ChiChester on Friday!

The Lions win a close one down in Avon Grove!

The Lionville wrestlers travelled down to Southern Chester County on Monday 1/7 to face a tough crew from Fred S. Engle Middle School. The Lions haven’t beaten Engle in a few seasons, but Monday brought some change in this new year! After a back-and-forth tussle, LMS won the dual meet 42-39, and evened their record up at 4-4! Ryan Loraw (95), Bo Horvath (155), and “Big” Nate Elam (250) collected falls for the Lions, while Ryan Shannon (100), Liam Knott (105), and Ezra Ganz (115) all won crucial decisions in the victory. Adaham Abouraya (200) fought back from huge defecits to lose only a 2-point decision and keep the team on track to win the dual! In the exhibitions, Matt Cogliati (122) throttled his opponent with a clean half-nelson to secure the pin! Congrats to Lionville for wrestling as a team and earning a true team victory! Good luck the rest of this week as more dual  meets loom ahead.

Lionville grapples to another win at Octorara!

On Friday 1/4, the Lionville wrestlers scrapped to another dual meet win at Octorara Middle School! The Lions finished the dual with a 48-38 victory and another mark in the win column as the new year begins. The Lions are now 3-4 on the season and look to even the record up when they return to action on Monday against Fred S. Engle MS. Good Luck Lions!!!

Lionville drops a narrow one against Kennett!

To close out 2018, the Lion grapplers hosted Kennett Middle School for a heated contest. The group from the Southern Chester County came ready to wrestle and took a 51-39 victory over the Lions. LMS grabs another victory vs. Coatesville!

On Monday 12/17, the Lionville wrestlers took on the combined Coatesville Middle School team in a home dual. Both teams were banged up with some injuries, but after a back-and-forth battle, the Lions got it done with a 36-30 victory. Ryan Loraw (100) picked up a major decision, while Frankie Colantuno (110) and Ezra Ganz (122) secured regular decisions. RJ Fullerton (95), Bo Horvath (155), and Adham Abouraya (200) picked up forfeits for the team. This win inches the Lions towards .500 and they look forward to the next opportunity to make it happen! Good luck Lionville!

The Lion wrestlers get in the win column!

The Lions were anxious to get back into action against Great Valley Middle School. They put together a great lineup leading the way to their first win 65-24. Starting with the big boys, 8th grader Nate Elam (250) got things started with a quick pin for 6. Other big wins came from Ryan Loraw (100) by technical fall, in addition to big pins from Liam Knott (105), Frankie Colantuno (110), and Bo Horvath (155). The team faces South Brandywine and Kennett Square next week before heading to the Christmas break.

Lionville continues tough schedule against Peirce!

On Monday 12/10, the Lion grapplers hosted a tough Peirce squad in their third competitive dual. The Lions put up a good fight, but in the end, the blue and white from West Chester claimed the 63-36 victory. Once again, Lionville had to forfeit several weights which dug them a substantial hole, Liam Knott (100), Ryan Loraw (105), Ezra Ganz (122), Bo Horvath (155), Adham “the Beast” Abouraya (200), and “Big” Nate Elam all scored falls for the Lions. Scrappy 7th grader Paxson Warnock (85) lost a hard fought 6-5 decision but battled hard. Once again, Ryan Shannon (100) looked impressive in the exhibitions with a surgical fall in the 2nd period. When the weight allowance kicks in, it will be nice to add Ryan to the Varsity line-up. Next up for LMS…. Great Valley MS on Thursday. Good luck Lions!

LMS goes south to Penn’s Grove!

The team headed down to Penn’s Grove Middle School still searching for their first team win of the year. Unable to fill their full line-up, the Lions gave up several forfeits falling 64-36. The work continues!

The Lions open up at home against Stetson!

On Wednesday 12/5, the Lionville wrestling team opened their season with a home tilt against West Chester powerhouse Stetson MS. The Lions shook off their rust and battled hard, but fell 33-69. They had to forfeit four weights putting them 24 points in the hole, but managed to rattle off some wins to make up some difference. Paxson Warnock (85), Christian Zimmerman (90), Frankie Colantuno (105), and Bo Horvath (155) recorded pins for the Lions, while Ryan Loraw (100) secured a major decision and “Big Nate” Elam collected 6 points with a forfeit.
