The Lions roar in their final rally cry of 18-19!!!
This past weekend, the Lionville wrestlers met their final challenge of the 18-19 season as they made the trek north to battle at Quakertown’s legendary SEPA MS/JRH Championships. The tournament hosted 36 of the region’s top middle schools with 18 regional crowns on the line. Action started Friday night, and burned its way to the very end Saturday evening. When the tournament closed, The Lions finished in 7th place out of 36 teams with 155.5 points. Ryan Loraw (95), Liam Knott (100), and Bo Horvath (155) claimed championships for the most all-time in Lionville history. “Big” Nate Elam (250) wrestled back hard to secure 3rd place while Frankie Colantuno (105) took 4th and Josh Hillestad (100) collected 5th place. Theses 6 place finishes are also the most all-time in LMS wrestling history. Earning wins and contributing to the team total were Paxson Warnock (80), RJ Fullerton (90), Christian Zimmerman (85), Brandon Pacinelli (105), Nick Viscomi (130), and Grace Wiliczek (165). The coaching staff, parents, teachers, and administrators would like to thank these student-athletes for their efforts and say how proud they are of the team’s performance! The Lions truly wore the black and gold with pride and left all of their efforts on the mats at Quakertown. Good luck to the graduating 8th grade class and here’s to further success in 2019-2020! Lionville has strong showing at Chester County Middle School Championships!
On Saturday 1/26, thirteen middle schools from Chester County converged on Downingtown West High School to compete and see who’s best! This championship tournament is held annually and displays some of the finest middle school wrestling talent in the county. The Lions entered their best line-up, and when the dust settled, they finished in 6th place in the 13 team competition. They had 6 wrestlers in the medal rounds and several others contribute with wins. Ryan Loraw (95) and Bo Horvath (155) won championships for the Lions, and Bo was voted Outstanding Wrestler of the tourney. Paxson Warnock (80), Frankie Colantuno (105), and “Big” Nate Elam (250) all fought back in the wrestle-backs and claimed 3rdplace finishes, while Christian Zimmerman (85) took 4th place. The overall performance was the best the Lions have seen at this tournament in a while, so the coaches and fans were proud to see the progress! The season now has one final event, the SEPA MS/JH Championship in two weeks. Good luck to the Lions as they prepare to take to the mat one final time in 2019!
Lionville finishes the dual meet season with a victory!
On Tuesday 1/22, the Lion grapplers visited Fugett Middle School for their final dual meet of the season. There have been ups and downs this winter, but the Lions wanted to finish in strong fashion! With a great effort, they defeated Fugett 54-33 in an exciting final showdown! RJ Fullerton (90), Ryan Loraw (100), Josh Hillestad (105), Frankie Colantuno (110), Bo Horvath (155), and Grace Wileczek (165) all secured victories fort he Lions, while Christian Zimmerman (95) and “Big” Nate Elam (250) received forfeits. Lionville wrestling finished the dual meet season with a 5-7 record and a wealth of experience. Thanks to Mother Nature for holding off the snow and any cancellations so all 12 duals could be wrestled! Good luck to the team as their next challenge is the Chester County Middle School Championships at D-West this coming Saturday. GO LIONS!!!
The Lions fall to crosstown rivals!
On Monday 1/14, the Lionville wrestlers hosted their district rivals, Downingtown Middle School. The match pits some of the best wrestlers Downingtown has to offer in a heated dual meet. Lionville put forth some strong efforts, but forfeits and missed weights set them back, and the sacrifice of too many bonus points sealed their fate. In the end, DMS won 63-33, and the Lions learned some valuable lessons. Ryan Loraw (95) and Liam Knott (105) captured pins for LMS, while Frankie Colantuno (110) earned a major decision. Bo Horvath (155) registered a technical fall and Adham “The Beast” Abouraya (210) and “Big” Nate Elam (250) collected forfeits. Now, the Lions must have a short memory and get prepared for their inaugural dual meet tournament at Cocalico HS this coming weekend. Good luck Lionville!
LMS can’t catch a break at Chichester!
For the second straight year, the Lion wrestlers had to journey down close to the Delaware River and compete against Chichester Middle School. Due to injury/illness, both teams had holes and gave up some forfeits, but Chi clawed and kicked a little harder and earned themselves a 53-44 victory over the Lions. Bo Horvath (155) collected the lone pin, while Frankie Colantuno (110) won a decision. Paxson Warnock (85), RJ Fullerton (90), Chris Zimmerman (95), Ryan Loraw (100), and Ryan Shannon (105) all received forfeits. The loss was a lesson in toughness for Lionville as many of the Chi wrestlers fought tooth and nail to earn bonus point wins or fight off their backs. Next week, the Lions have their final slate of dual meets, so good luck to the team and finish strong!
Lionville suffers a rough visit from Patton!
At mid-week, the Patton Middle School Eagles came to LMS for their annual dual meet. They brought a strong team and defeated the Lions 63-27. Lionville had to forfeit a few weights due to absences/injuries, but managed to secure pins by Ryan Loraw (95) and Bo Horvath (155). RJ Fullerton (90) earned a solid, hard-fought decision while Ezra Ganz (122) and Grace Wileczek (165) also picked up falls for the Lions. The loss to Patton was a tough one and exposed many areas in need of improvement, but the Lions are willing, and there are more opportunities ahead! Good luck against ChiChester on Friday!
The Lions win a close one down in Avon Grove!
The Lionville wrestlers travelled down to Southern Chester County on Monday 1/7 to face a tough crew from Fred S. Engle Middle School. The Lions haven’t beaten Engle in a few seasons, but Monday brought some change in this new year! After a back-and-forth tussle, LMS won the dual meet 42-39, and evened their record up at 4-4! Ryan Loraw (95), Bo Horvath (155), and “Big” Nate Elam (250) collected falls for the Lions, while Ryan Shannon (100), Liam Knott (105), and Ezra Ganz (115) all won crucial decisions in the victory. Adaham Abouraya (200) fought back from huge defecits to lose only a 2-point decision and keep the team on track to win the dual! In the exhibitions, Matt Cogliati (122) throttled his opponent with a clean half-nelson to secure the pin! Congrats to Lionville for wrestling as a team and earning a true team victory! Lionville grapples to another win at Octorara!
On Friday 1/4, the Lionville wrestlers scrapped to another dual meet win at Octorara Middle School! The Lions finished the dual with a 48-38 victory and another mark in the win column as the new year begins. Ryan Shannon (95), Ryan Loraw (100), Bo Horvath (155) and Adham Abouraya (200) all scored falls, while Chris Zimmerman (90), Liam Knott (110) secured decisions. “Big” Nate Elam collected a forfeit at heavyweight. The Lions are now 3-4 on the season and look to even the record up when they return to action on Monday against Fred S. Engle MS. Good Luck Lions!!!
Lionville drops a narrow one against Kennett!
To close out 2018, the Lion grapplers hosted Kennett Middle School for a heated contest. The group from the Southern Chester County came ready to wrestle and took a 51-39 victory over the Lions. Paxson Warnock (85), Ryan Loraw (100), Bo Horvath (155), Grace Wileczek (165), and Nate Elam (250) collected falls for LMS, while Liam Knott (105) claimed a hard-fought decision. Ezra “The Rock” Ganz (122) received a forfeit. In the exhibition rounds, Josh Hillestad (100), Brandon Pacinelli (100), and Brent D’Archangelo (105) all won decisive victories. It was a tough final outing for 2018, but Lionville will be back in the new year and ready to rumble!
LMS grabs another victory vs. Coatesville!
On Monday 12/17, the Lionville wrestlers took on the combined Coatesville Middle School team in a home dual. Both teams were banged up with some injuries, but after a back-and-forth battle, the Lions got it done with a 36-30 victory. Ryan Loraw (100) picked up a major decision, while Frankie Colantuno (110) and Ezra Ganz (122) secured regular decisions. RJ Fullerton (95), Bo Horvath (155), and Adham Abouraya (200) picked up forfeits for the team. This win inches the Lions towards .500 and they look forward to the next opportunity to make it happen! The Lion wrestlers get in the win column!
The Lions were anxious to get back into action against Great Valley Middle School. They put together a great lineup leading the way to their first win 65-24. Starting with the big boys, 8th grader Nate Elam (250) got things started with a quick pin for 6. Other big wins came from Ryan Loraw (100) by technical fall, in addition to big pins from Liam Knott (105), Frankie Colantuno (110), and Bo Horvath (155). The team faces South Brandywine and Kennett Square next week before heading to the Christmas break.
Lionville continues tough schedule against Peirce!
On Monday 12/10, the Lion grapplers hosted a tough Peirce squad in their third competitive dual. The Lions put up a good fight, but in the end, the blue and white from West Chester claimed the 63-36 victory. Once again, Lionville had to forfeit several weights which dug them a substantial hole, Liam Knott (100), Ryan Loraw (105), Ezra Ganz (122), Bo Horvath (155), Adham “the Beast” Abouraya (200), and “Big” Nate Elam all scored falls for the Lions. Scrappy 7th grader Paxson Warnock (85) lost a hard fought 6-5 decision but battled hard. Once again, Ryan Shannon (100) looked impressive in the exhibitions with a surgical fall in the 2nd period. When the weight allowance kicks in, it will be nice to add Ryan to the Varsity line-up. Next up for LMS…. Great Valley MS on Thursday. Good luck Lions!
LMS goes south to Penn’s Grove!
The team headed down to Penn’s Grove Middle School still searching for their first team win of the year. Unable to fill their full line-up, the Lions gave up several forfeits falling 64-36. Wrestlers who stepped up for the team with signature wins included Ryan Loraw (decision at 100), Bo Horvath (pin at 155), Grace Wileczek (pin at 165), and Nate Elam (pin at 250). The work continues!
The Lions open up at home against Stetson!
On Wednesday 12/5, the Lionville wrestling team opened their season with a home tilt against West Chester powerhouse Stetson MS. The Lions shook off their rust and battled hard, but fell 33-69. They had to forfeit four weights putting them 24 points in the hole, but managed to rattle off some wins to make up some difference. Paxson Warnock (85), Christian Zimmerman (90), Frankie Colantuno (105), and Bo Horvath (155) recorded pins for the Lions, while Ryan Loraw (100) secured a major decision and “Big Nate” Elam collected 6 points with a forfeit. Ryan Shannon (100) also looked tough picking up a pin in an exhibition bout. At the end of the day, it was a hard loss to take, but lessons will be learned and the team will look forward!
