On the final weekend of a tough season (2/7-2/8), four Lion grapplers travelled to Quakertown HS to compete in the region’s prestigious SEPA middle school championships. Mason Ippolito and Frankie Hydutsky (both at 94 lbs.) fought bravely going 0-2 in their brackets but picked up valuable experience. Valen Piff (80 lbs.) and Liam Knott (115 lbs.) both went 1-2, gaining victories and getting to move up in their brackets where they saw terrific competition. Congrats to the Lions for battling through the final stage of their season! Although there was a tough learning curve, we know this group has the fight to use the experience and get better in the near future! INVICTUS
In their final week, the team faced off against Fugett Middle School and won 4 of the 6 matches wrestled. The final score was Fugett 39 and Lionville 27. Valen Piff (80 lbs.) was leading with several seconds left in the match, but ultimately fell in a close one. Picking up wins for the Lions were Paxson Warnock (94 lbs.), Liam Knott (115 lbs.), Alex Stewart (155 lbs.), and Tommy Grizzanti (190 lbs.) Against Octorara Middle School the team struggled mightily giving up several forfeits and losing some matches they expected to win. Paxson Warnock (94 lbs.) lost a close one and Liam Knott (115 lbs.) lost by major decision. The young Lions closed out their 19-20 season at the Chester County Championshiops held at Downingtown West High School. Liam Knott (115 lbs.) finished in 1st place at his respective weight and Tommy Grizzanti (190 lbs.) and Adham Abouraya (250 lbs.) earned 2nd place medals. Congrats to the Lions for a long but productive regular season!
On Thursday 1/16, the Lions traveled to face their crosstown rivals, Downingtown Middle School. The team managed to score 21 points even with their light lineup against a full DMS squad. The final score was 60-21. Key wins for the young team included Paxson Warnock (94 lbs.) won by fall, Liam Knott (115 lbs.) won by decision, and Tommy Grizzanti (190 lbs.) won by fall. Nice work by the team despite their small numbers.
On Tuesday 1/14, the Lions wrestled their final home match of the 19-20 season against Fred S Engle Middle School. The Lions were defeated 45-30. Valen Piff fought hard at 80 lbs, but fell by decision. However, Paxson Warnock (94 lbs.), Liam Knott (115 lbs.), and Tommy Grizzanti (190 lbs.) scored pins for the team. The team wrestles their final 3 matches of the season on the road before heading to the Chester County Championships.
On Friday 1/10, the team took on Patton Middle School, and despite giving up 7 forfeits and missing starter Tommy Grizzanti at 170, the team won 4 of the 7 matches wrestled. The final score was 57-30. The match started off at 250 where Adham Abouraya pinned his opponent. Also picking up wins by fall were Valen Piff (80 lbs.), Mason Ippolitio (101 lbs.) and Liam knott (115 lbs.). The young Lions have been showing improvement over the past couple of weeks as they look to use that momentum to finish the season strong.
On 1/3, Lionville opened the new year and faced a tough Stetson Middle School squad. The team didn’t back down, but lost to the Falcons 60-14. Mason Ippolito (94) won by fall, Liam Knott (115) won by technical fall, and Adham Abouraya (250) won by decision. Despite the challenges, the team worked forward.
On 1/6, the Lions faced off against Penns Grove Middle School and fell 32-27, but showed some grit and determination, even in defeat. Frankie Hydutsky (94) picked up a fall for the team, Liam Knott (115) won by decision, and Tommy Grizzanti (190) won by fall. The team looks to quickly improve as they face a challenging Peirce squad next.
On Wednesday 1/8, the team traveled to Peirce Middle School to take on the Chargers. The Lions have been showing more fight lately, but they fell 65-16. Liam Knott (115) won by major decision and Tommy Grizzanti (190) won by fall. Frankie Hydutsky and Jackson Smith both got opportunities to wrestle in exhibition matches, and both wrestlers were able to display the improvements they have been making in the practice room. Great job boys!
The Lions battle hard at Great Valley!
Before the team headed into the holiday break, they took on Great Valley Middle School on Thursday 12/19. The team lost 48-27 as a result of giving Great Valley several forfeits. However, the young Lions won 5 of the 7 matches wrestled. Valen Piff (80 lbs.) started things off with a pin against his opponent. Also, scoring pins for the team were Paxson Warnock (101 lbs.), Liam Knott (122 lbs.), and Tommy Grizzanti (190 lbs.). Frankie Hydutsky won his first match of the year in an exhibition bout against his opponent. Finally, Chase D’Archangelo (87 lbs.) fought hard against his opponent before succumbing to injury in the 3rd period. We hope Chase can return healthy to start the new year.
LMS claims victory in Coatesville!
On Wednesday 12/18, the young Lions took on North Brandywine Middle School and won 33-30. Chase D’Archangelo (87 lbs.) scored a dominating decision for his second win of the year, and Paxson Warnock (94 lbs.) and Liam Knott (122 lbs.) both won by fall against their opponents. The team will face Great Valley Middle School before heading into the Christmas break as they look to shift several wrestlers to lower weight classes.
The Lions duke it out at Chichester!
The team traveled to Chichester on Friday 12/13 and battled hard, but lost 48-42. Newcomers Chase D’Archangelo (80 lbs.) and Tommy Grizzanti (190 lbs.) scored pins for the Lions. Returning starters Liam Knott (122 lbs.) and Adham Abouraya (250) also proved their dominance by securing 1st period pins and giving the young Lions a chance to win. Another newcomer, Jake Bouska, earned his first win when he pinned his opponent during their exhibition match.
The Lions opened their season against an experienced Kennett Square squad on Tuesday 11/10. The team was defeated on the scoreboard, but gained valuable mat experience as they look to improve and get better in the future. Valen Piff won by decision at 80 lbs, Liam Knott scored a major decision at 122 lbs., and Adham Abouraya secured a 1st period pin at 250 lbs. The team travels to Chichester Middle School on Friday December 13th.
