D-East takes down the Warriors!

On Wednesday 1/6, Downingtown East opened up its Chesmont League campaign with a home dual against West Chester Henderson. The Cougars won 9 matches out of 14 and claimed a 47-26 victory over the visiting Warriors. James Strommer (113), Wade Cummings (132), Alec Horne (170), Brent Czajkowski (182), Owen Morris (195), and Brendan McGinley (285) all recorded pins for East while Lukas Richie (106) and Nik Zimmerman (138) registered major decisions. In the JV contest, Luke Moran (160), Fernando Gomez (152), Jett Lucas-Murphy (132), and Stu Regitz (138) picked up falls. The victory puts the Cougars at 6-0 as they march forward to this weekend’s “Rage in the Cage” multi-dual event at Garnet Valley HS. Good luck East and keep the pressure on!

DE Wrestling “three-peats” as Chesmont Tournament champions!

chesmont2015Congratulations go out to the Downingtown East Wrestling team as they secured their 3rd straight Chesmont League Tournament championship with a total of 205 points. Held at WC Rustin high school, the event brings together the Chesmont National and American teams to put their skills to the test and see who rises supreme. The Cougars ended the event with 4 champions: Wade Cummings (126), Austin Lillis (138), James Meyer (152), and Billy McGinley (220), who all won by fall. Jude McDowell (132) and Alec Horne (170) finished with silver medals after tightly contested matches. Nik Zimmerman (120), Brent Czajkowski (195), and Owen “The Horse” Morris (285) battled through wrestle-backs to take consolation bronze. Other place finishers were Brett Horne (106) who came in 4th, James Strommer (113) who took 5th, and Jason Gibson (182) who collected 6th after an injury. Dalton Burt (152) and Jack Clay (160) battled but came up short of the podium. The Cougars will advance 12 out of 14 wrestlers to next weekend’s District 1 Central tournament at Wissahickon HS. Good luck to the advancing wrestlers and job well done to the D-East program for continuing their hard-earned success!

The Cougars smother the Red Devils; Win 4th consecutive league title

The Downingtown East Wrestling squad captured their 4th consecutive Chesmont National title Friday night with a convincing 56-12 win over visiting Avon Grove. As they also celebrated “Senior Night,” the Cougars got pins from James Strommer (113), Jude McDowell (138), Austin Lillis (145), and Alec Horne (170). Wade Cummings (126) and Billy McGinley (220) collected major decisions to help pile up the points. On the JV front, pins from Josh Wileczek (195), Connor Birzes (120), Harris Alliger (126), and Phips Jules (182) helped propel them to a 44-16 scoreline and an undefeated finish in the Chesmont National to match their Varsity brethren. Congratulations to the team for finishing the regular season with a 22-4 mark, and a 5-0 record in the league. Good luck and best wishes to our Seniors, as well as many thanks to them for four remarkable years of service! Next up, the individual post season begins; it’s time to show up or go home as rounds of elimination face our best and brightest next weekend at the Chesmont League Tournament! Good luck Cougars!
